James Patteson
James is a seasoned executive who headed up multiple complex County government Departments, for over three decades.
James is a coach and consultant with extensive experience in engineering, land development, environmental engineering, infrastructure, leadership, and culture. He is widely regarded for his skills at bringing out the best in teams to create innovative and collaborative solutions. James’ leadership practice has focused on developing and implementing strategic solutions inside local governments, creating positive work cultures, and assessing program performance. He has worked extensively with local leaders to develop programs in mentoring, executive onboarding, crafting vision and values, and creating thriving cultures. His workshops and trainings have been utilized by Virginia Tech’s Municipal Engineering program, George Mason’s Master’s in Public Administration program, the American Public Works Association, and the Public Works Institute.

On a Personal Note:
James is an avid water-skier and lover of all water sports. He loves spending time at the lake and loves swimming, running, and biking when he’s not coaching high school track and field or watching the Hokies dominate. He lives in Fairfax, Virginia where he and his wife have enjoyed raising their three (now adult) kids.
